HALF-CENTURY HEADACHE

The Crowell-Collier Co. closed its Springfield plant in late 1956. The building has been used primarily for storage ever since. In 1999, a general alarm fire gutted the building. [Photo on left]

In 2009, bricks collapsed into the street. In 2011, the fire marshal padlocked the plant after another fire.
